The importance of a strong brand message

Many small business owners start out for the same reasons:

  • They have a passion they want to share

  • They crave the freedom of working for themselves

  • They want to experience financial success

For many small business owners, they're primarily focused on creating the best product or service for their customers because that’s what will win business, right?  Not so fast.  Sure, it’s important.  No one will buy from you if what you sell doesn’t meet their needs and solve their problem.  But what initially captures a customer’s attention is the strength and clarity of your brand message.

In today’s digital world, we're overrun with messaging everywhere we turn.  It’s estimated that in 2021, the average person is exposed to anywhere between 6,000 – 10,000 marketing messages.  Each day!  It’s no wonder why your company’s brand message needs to be strong to capture the attention of your ideal customer.

As a small business owner, you have a very limited amount of time (3- 5 seconds for website visitors, for example) to deliver a message that will engage your ideal customer and bring them into your sales funnel.  And ultimately, convert them to a paying customer.

Your brand message is the foundation for all your sales and marketing materials. So, it's critical to get it right!

You likely have multiple competitors, and some of them probably offer a product or service that is comparable to yours.  But a clear brand message that resonates with your customers will help you stand out and make the sale.

Because when customers are clear on how you can help them,

they are more likely to buy.

Creating a strong brand message that cuts the clutter and attracts the right audience follows a formula. But many small business owners are focused on building what they're passionate about - their business - and don't have time to learn the key elements of the brand message formula.

In the coming weeks we will discuss the different elements of a strong brand message and simple steps you can take to implement it within your own business.
