What do you and Mr. Miyagi have in common?

Let’s face it... Daniel was nothing without Mr. Miyagi.  Johnny and his crew undoubtedly would have kept bullying Daniel if Mr. Miyagi didn’t take him under his wing and coach and guide him to become the winner of the All Valley Tournament.  And if you aren’t humming “You’re the Best” by now, then it’s time to watch the movie again!

But wait, what does The Karate Kid have to do with your business?  Because it perfectly demonstrates the flow of a good story. And a good story is what will help sell your product or service to your ideal customer.

Daniel has a problem. (just like your ideal customer)

He’s the new kid.  He’s alone and has no friends.  And he is getting bullied. Repeatedly. (pain points)

And then he meets Mr. Miyagi.  The man with a plan who is going to help Daniel win the All Valley Tournament. And put the bullying to an end once and for all.  Or at least stand up to the bullies and gain some respect.

Mr. Miyagi has the solution to Daniel’s problems.

And you have the solution to your ideal customer’s problems.  You, my friend, are the wise Mr. Miyagi.  And by coaching and guiding, you too can solve your customer’s pain points with your product or service.

When creating the story about their business, many business owners want to put themselves at the center.  But the story must be about your customer, their problems, and your product or service as the solution.

Make the story about your customer, and they will become much more interested in what you have to say.
